Describe why you enjoy math:
I enjoy math because it presents me with difficult problems and the opportunity to solve the problems using what I have learned.

Describe how you anticipate using math in your future (job, hobbies, community service work, mentoring, and research):
I plan to be an acoustical engineer. In my line of work I will be using math to calculate acoustic vibrations reverberating off the walls of a building in order to diminish or increase these vibrations through alternative structural design.

I have been involved in my community through the following service projects:
This past year I have volunteered at Christian Community for Action, helped run sound and power point at my church, gone to Africa on a medical mission trip, volunteered at Shoes for Orphans, and helped with Vacation Bible School at my church. I also play the guitar for the Youth Band at my church.

My favorite project was:
Running sound at my church, for the following reason:  I enjoy serving others and being around music and musicians.

I have set the following goals for myself for the next few years:

1 year: My goals for the next year include learning “C” programming language, reading the entire Bible, and playing guitar for my church band.

5 years: In the next five years I hope to have completed my bachelor’s degree in Engineering and to be proceeding to a PhD. in acoustical engineering. I would also like to have completed a minor in music, and possibly a minor in business.

My greatest inspiration has been:
My parents have inspired me to stay debt free for my entire life.  They have also inspired me to go for my PhD. in whatever degree I choose.

My favorite subject in school is:
music, especially playing the electric guitar. I, however, started with piano and did not begin guitar till I was 12. I play guitar in my youth band and I will hopefully begin playing in my church band soon!

My favorite extra-curricular activity has been:
Playing electric guitar. As I have mentioned, I play in my youth band, but occasionally I have the opportunity to play at a show. Last Christmas I had the opportunity to play my guitar in the closing seen of a production put on by the ACT organization in Coppell, Texas. I played “Canon Rock”, an arrangement of Pachelbel’s Cannon in D minor.

The most challenging thing I have ever experienced was:
my first speech. I used to be really uncomfortable speaking in front of people, so my mother put me into a speech club. During my time there I had to pick and edit a speech to perform in front of judges at a tournament. Even though I did not go on to win any awards, the skills I learned in that club helped me to be a better witness on my mission trip to Africa.

My greatest accomplishment to date has been:
getting an A in my first two dual credit classes my sophomore year of high school. Even though it required a lot of hard work, I was able to achieve a grade of A in my first college classes.
